What is a Linocut?
Linocut printmaking is an artistic process producing a unique, one-of-a-kind work of art. A linocut is a type of relief print. I first carve an image into a block of linoleum , then ink is rolled onto the uncut surface of the block and, finally, paper is laid on top of the block and pressure is applied to produce a print. It’s also known as a lino print or linoleum block print.
And yes, the linoleum is the flooring. The same linoleum floor covering made from materials such as solidified linseed oil, pine resin, ground cork dust, sawdust, and mineral fillers such as calcium carbonate, most commonly on a burlap or canvas backing. It is a perfect material to carve and use for relief printing.
The print for sale is a one-of-kind is a hand-colored, hand-pulled linocut.
